Veteran illustrator and web cartoonist, researching best distro for my needs. Am impressed with knowledge base available for free. All input welcome. Have downloaded Blender, Inkscape, Gimp ... time to consider OS change if I can do so without missing a beat.

Presumably the Blender, Inkscape and Gimp you have downloaded are the Windows versions. You could stick with the Windows versions. If you downloaded from somewhere like FileHippo.com you could always have the latest programs

Are you sure you want to go with Linux? You could dual boot Windows and Linux for a while to see if it really is for you.

I don't think that you need a specialist distro. Some of the "arty" ones come with a lot of multimedia apps which are not what you want. You can get Blender, Inkscape and Gimp very easily on a basic Linux Distro. You might be better to just go for something simple and straightforward like Linux Mint and add to it.

:D ^GRASP^ Arochester, you naughty boy. I am going to tell Tux that you said the "W" word.

P.S.
I will also tell your mother. You are going to be grounded forever. :p

P.S.S.
I would tell Linus Torvald, but who knows what he will do to naughty boys like you.:D
;)

Honestly, @DiabolosDuck some people prefer Windows and are familiar with it. You do not NEED to use a different OS for better graphics software unless you want Linux.

By the way, when I tell on Arochester, I will not tell Tux that I said the "W" word.;)
