Im hatching a loose plan to build a Rendering farm/CADCAM and video editing set up using second hand servers for the additional processing capacity.
In addition I want to use Solidworks 2019 with surface renderings and thermal/cfd simulations, probably coral draw, SolidCam as well as 3d print software, and coordinate measurement/3D laser scanning packages. Im planning to shoot lots of slow motion videos capturing destructive labtests on materials and components.
From what I can tell servers don't work so well with high end graphics cards, so that side of the operation would be better dealt with by dedicated workstations. Im probably looking at adding up to 10 workstations over the next few years.
Ive found a job lot of semi modern servers at a bargain price and im now looking at software and how to control it. Theyre cheap enough to be able to rely on quantity over quality and being servers are built to run 24/7.
Ive built many desktops and laptops, but have never built or managed a server before.
Any ideas where to go next?
