    JAVA

More or less, when you update you find which packages that you have installed have an available update to them, they are listed and you are asked to confirm that you want to update them.

    help&discuss: how to study DB

Try the basics of relational ones with mySQL. Once you get that, I would go to non-relational with mongodb

    mariadb users

A possible solution would be creating the database(s) for them and give out users which have permissions on those DBs. create studentsdb, create user student01, create user student02, et cetera. give all those users rights on studentsdb and let them create something, but insist that playing...

    Best OS for custimization

I think most distros do pretty well honestly? If you are overall comfortable I'd try Arch or some variation, I guess?

    Ubuntu doesn´t work anymore.

That timeshift is like a fallback mechanism? Is it available in all distros in some form?

I made a video series on setting up a home web server with Ubuntu

I cannot watch it right now, yet you made my day big time. Thanks for taking the time to both make the videos and post here :)

copying files between servers using command line

Did you try 1. scp? 2. ssh in order to wget?

What is your favorite web host manager control panel?

Embarrasing, but I can't find anything with some searches. Can be found only in repos?

Good distro for a gamer coming from Windows?

Honestly? Stay on win10 or a dual-boot if the primary use will be gaming. At the very least make a thorough search on your favorite staple games (mostly those online and thus non-ending) and how they interact with playonlinux. I had a rough time overall but thankfully... I stopped playing. Oh...

list of files changed from certain date

There could be a command for that exact purpose but I know none. You could try, and this is kinda overboard I know, "dry run" something like touch and to see differences in dates by piping the result of the command into a txt... Damn, that's too much, there is probably someone who can actually...

    Open TCP session

I don't know enough to answer your question but, in case the TCP connections made are way too many, check whether you support persistent connections (Keep-Alive) at the moment. Happened to me lately and kept connections on humongus numbers.

    Need proper c++ editor

Visual Studio Code is cool, Intellij is interesting... If you want something akin to notepad++ I'd probably go for sublime. I think you test stuff out, it's your tool and you should make sure it's handy for you :)

    What a Linux server is?

Thanks for the answer! First off, I have used hosting services and maybe that incited the curiousity of how I would do it on my own instead and could do it as a pet project and, not work-related or something like that. Thus, the hardening part is something less needed for me from the get-go but...

    What a Linux server is?

Greetings to y'all! It's been some time again, I hope all is well :) I am trying to read up once in a while and couldn't help but hijack this post! (If you believe I should open up a new topic let me know) Say I want to host my awesomewebsite.com on my machine, can we clarify how I would go...

    File Permissions - chmod

Skimming through I saw that there is a latin alternative to numeric values for permissions. Interesting, yet I usually think "Do I use 777? Yes? Good. No? Use 466". I guess latin values are native to all distros or are you guys talking aliases?

Ubuntu - Where is my WD MyCloud in FileZilla

@CptCharis Indeed! Been quite busy! Made me drop the dual booting stuff entirely after some tries, looking to find an old machine to test to my heart's content at some point. :| To the point, maybe it's not a server wide setting but a subdomain thing. I might be talking bullshit though, kind of...

Ubuntu - Where is my WD MyCloud in FileZilla

Check if your server supports connecting with FTP or SFTP and apply accordingly. There are default port values, FTP uses 21 and SFTP uses 22. I hope what I'm answering to is not irrelevant.

I need help with Arch Linux

Maybe an EFI/UEFI vs BIOS issue? Check which stands for your computer, I think the grub needs to be configured depending on that.

    Migrating from Ubuntu

I actually bumped upon this myself and I thought I was golden (though not in Archwiki). Then I ran a search and actually found many efi dirs here and there in my filesystem (ran a find from root dir and chilled while my pc was in anguish searching). I guess that it doesn't matter, if that...
