Hi Wizard, Version of Ubuntu is 16.04 LTS (as listed in System settings - Details. Icons to access programs are located on LHS and presumably "DASH" is at the top ('File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help) on LHS and (Wifi, bluetooth, battery volume, time/calendar and shutdown etc.)...
