Another workaround that fixed it for me was to remove (sudo apt remove plasma-workspace) and then (sudo apt install plasma-workspace plasma-desktop) back again after entering ctrl+alt+f3(or whichever works). Somehow plasma is making an issue and corrupting the update. The last time I reinstalled...
