    Very nice explanation... thanks!

    distrowatch question

Many of their OS reviews happen in the DistroWatch Weekly, and those are archived (here) going back to June 2003. Again, in the upper left corner area of their main website, in the dark green section (below the yellow header section), on the far left, there is a dropdown showing...

    distrowatch question

DistroWatch never claims accuracy. It's just one site publishing what their web traffic (hit counters) indicate to them. They do claim to try to stop cheating and abuse on the hit counters. It's a measuring stick, but it's not calibrated to anything else. Other options can be found...

Solved How Often Do You Trim Your SSD ?

Ah, but it does work that way. You can start a reply with that method, or you can begin a reply from scratch. But in your ongoing reply, just open up a clean spot with empty lines, put your cursor in the middle of it, and then you can use that method to add all the extra quotes you want. I'll...

Solved How Often Do You Trim Your SSD ?

@blunix... I think you are doing "quotes" the harder way. It seems that you are click-and-dragging to copy the text you want, then right-click and copy, then you have to open the Quotes dialog in the editor controls above, then paste in there... extra steps and clicks that aren't needed. Also...

    Moving from UNIX to Linux

I guess you're already familiar with Slackware, right? 'Tis said that it is the most Unix-like of the distros, so you might find it easier than I do! ;) Welcome! It sounds like you're ambitious enough to start a LUG! Though you might Google around first... I'd guess a big metro area like that...

An oldie, but a goodie  This is one of my favorites too.:eek:

    distrowatch question

DistroWatch still offers some information on those distros you've remembered. You can search for distros by typing their name into a box on the upper left corner of their website. Searching "Redox" finds it mentioned on this page (Other Operating Systems and Related Hypervisors)... with a link...

    Solved Cron giving me fits

Any workaround is a good workaround... well done! But I have no clue what you did, nor why that was needed to make it work. It seems to me there should be an easier way than that! But maybe one of our code experts here can break it down for us to understand it better.

    Solved Cron giving me fits

Yes, clock time. Here's a pretty good recent cron article.

    Solved Cron giving me fits

Sorry I can't help more. Scripting is a challenge for me too. Shell Check indicates some things in your code to take a look at... if you want to start there.

    Solved Cron giving me fits

#!/bin/bash should work fine too, almost always. I think there are some odd cases where bash is not in /bin (or some other trouble), but I've never encountered a problem with it myself. #!/usr/bin/env bash seems to be the more recommended way these days, that's all. I'm not good enough with...

    Solved Cron giving me fits

When you run the script manually (and it works), you are using 'bash' + script. But in your cronjob, you aren't doing it that way. I have a cronjob that runs like your cron example... without 'bash' being invoked... and it works. But I do have a bash shebang (#!/usr/bin/env bash) in the script...

Which PSU should I get for my first gaming pc build?

Exactly this. ^^^^^^ I would only add a reminder that if a device has a failure that would cause it to draw more power than is safe (like a short circuit)... that you should be protected by proper fuses, circuit breakers, and grounds. That don't mean you WILL be protected, but you SHOULD be...

Solved How Often Do You Trim Your SSD ?

It might. From the man page, given above by @GatorsFan... @kc1di's link says Ubuntu and Mint automatically trim once/week (meeting the man page recommendation)... though the author there suggests daily trim instead. The main thing seems to be to trim regularly. A week's worth of...

Impartiality Of Distro Choices Advocated At This Site

No need to be embarrassed or feel any negativity, Mike. I thought it was a great observation and discussion. And it's true... we all have some tendency to promote those things we use ourselves. That's just simple human nature. But it's always good to re-evaluate whether we can do things better...
