    Switching to Linux

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Backup anything and everything, including Windows Product Keys, just in case.

    Switching to Linux

Once reinstalling Windows10, it couldn't find the Windows License/Product Key. I record all the Windows Product Keys and also save the BitLocker codes too.

Beware of the usb stick you buy.

I always Format/Reformat any USB Flash Drive before using them, which should take care of any potential Malware problems. I seriously doubt that new flash drives sold by the major companies will have Malware. Anyway, don't buy or use cheap Flash Drives, it's not worth it.

Ubuntu 22.04 on Surface Pro 7+

I own four different Microsoft Devices, two of their Laptops and two of their 2-in-1 Surface Go/Pro Tablets/Laptops. While I've had no problem installing Linux on the Laptops, I've had no success installing Linux on the Surface Go or the Surface Go Pro, which really stymies me. I'm currently...

Beware of the usb stick you buy.

I've used a variety of USB Flash Drives, I've found SanDisk to be very reliable and Samsung to be the fastest.

    Switching to Linux

I very much like and use Kubuntu, it does what I need it to do. I can easily install it on some Laptops, not so easily on others. When you get to the point where it says install, pick the generic video drivers, you can always go back and add the appropriate video drivers after a successful...

    Solved Linux vs hp

I have used Rufus, however balenaEtcher is far easier (my opinion) to use.

    Solved Linux vs hp

According to WIKIPEDIA, RUFUS doesn't do Multiboot. I found balenaEtcher to be very easy to use, to burn one iso at a time.

    Solved Linux vs hp

Maybe try only one bootable iso on the USB Flash Drive, one at a time, then take it from there.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I'll take you up on that bet, lets make it $20, in fact just save yourself the trouble and concede, since I already proved you wrong.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I've been using PCs for several decades, Mac for 19 years. My above commentary was in regard to the so called Write Protected USB Flash Drive, even though it DOES NOT HAVE a Write Protect switch.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I just yesterday experienced the Write Protected notification even though the USB Flash Drive I was using does not have a write protect switch. I did have a Kubuntu iso on a 64GB SanDisk Flash Drive, which I had made with my Kubuntu installed Laptop. I inserted said Flash Drive into a Microsoft...

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I still have in my possession an iNTEL 486DX4-100 No, a 286 would not do better. Plus, I would have the option of running 32 Bit OS and apps. It might be fun to install different versions of DOS and Windows with an appropriate boot manager, heck maybe even a copy of OS/2.

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

Micro$oft wants everyone to be using the same version, it makes things easier for them, plus they've gone to great lengths to make Windows more secure. The only reason to be running an older version of Windows, is if one has expired outdated applications that will only run on those older...

The divorce is final. Now to ditch MS for good! (And a bit of useful info.)

I've used CHKDSK in Windows 10/11 to repair volumes, partitions, and file structures on USB FLASH DRIVES, because it is easy to use. Still using Windows 8.1? Huh? Really? When you download an iso, first look to see how large the download is, then get and use a Flash Drive that is of...
