When I updated a file in Linux the permission and owner changed to "???????"

Do you know how I can change this permission......?
When I tried to change it is not allowing and say input/output error....
Thank you for you help.

If you really tried hard....you could probably provide less information/detail

Obviously it would be beneficial to anyone answering this thread to know which Linux you are using, which version, what you have tried already, what you are hoping to achieve, where is the file loctaed.....

.....and anything else you think of that may help

I want to berate the op so badly for this low effort post. Must... bite... my tongue!

At least give us a screenshot son, so we can know what we're looking at!
 
I'm guessing OP is using something like xrdp or x2go, if I remember correctly that creates some type of directory which can't deal with the regular Linux permissions resulting in those ????? where you normally see permissions. Go to the directory where you see that, run "ls -l" and share the output.
