Which distro uses lowest system resource (when installed on hard_disk/usb.) where I can install software from Debian OR Ubuntu repository?

I found Quelitu which is based on Lubuntu, but uses less memory as given on their site. There are lighter distros but most of them are based on Slackware. I don't have much experience so want some expert opinion. Thank you in advance.

This doesn't seem to be under active development anymore, but you can easily update it I'd figure if you have a more recent sources.list file: http://fluxbuntu.org/ (uses Fluxbox)

Ubuntu has an (outdated but useful) article on setting up a lightweight system: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/LowMemorySystems

A guide to installing Openbox: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Openbox

Note that I've used both Openbox and Fluxbox on a 1.6 GHz single-core Intel Atom processor netbook with 1 GB of RAM and I experience absolutely no performance hits even with Firefox (which is known to be a resource bloat).

Just try using damn small linux. Less resource consuming especially HD space as it runs at an acceptable 51.3mb in the latest version.

The whole "damn small linux" fits into RAM which makes it superfast!

Bachata linux is perhaps the lightest I have found, but takes a little work to set up.The most practical light true-Debian distro I have encountered, so far, is antiX-M11
