G'day paffett, Welcome to Linux.orgI've been experimenting with lots of different distro's recently and honestly I'm really enjoying Kubuntu
Thank you for the welcome, it's great to be here!G'day paffett, Welcome to Linux.org
Rather than seek others opinions, likes or dislikes......trust your intuition. Go with what you feel comfortable with.
As for mint it's just a solid Desktop distro but unfortunately they dropped KDE some time back, But it's solid and stable.

What experiences, good or bad, have you had with Kubuntu?

ubiquity
with a KDE-Qt skin (so it looks different) and more recently calamares
. I like the look of calamares
, but its an installer; software we don't use that often but use to do an unpleasant job & tool we need to use. All installers have quirks, so I just want them to work; here Kubuntu is no different to any other distro.kubuntu-desktop
installed (though I'll have some KDE & Kubuntu apps installed), but I do on other boxes. My boxes are actually multi-desktop installs, so I select which DE/WM I'll run when I login, and I do have Kubuntu (co-)installed on some.Thank you for the warm welcome!Hello @paffett
Welcome to the Linux.org forum, enjoy!
Kubuntu is a good Distro. I've used it off and on for many years. using debian at the moment KDE of course. Enjoy you time with Kubuntu they have a nice forum also. found here:

One of the great things about Linux is you have choices.
I have run it on a test rig in the past, like all the Ubuntu family it is reasonably stable and secure, like most Linux distributions it is infinitely customisable. If it works on your machine, allows you to perform your tasks. and you like the look and feel of it, all the better. What experiences, good or bad, have you had with Kubuntu?
Coming from Windows anything is lighter in my eyes, which is probably why I like KDE, it just seems familiar. I think I might also have a dabble with Xfce as from what I'm reading it's really light and customisable.Firstly I very much agree with what Condobloke said
I like KDE Plasma, in fact when GNOME 2 changed into GNOME 3 and I no longer felt at home there, I dabbled with Xfce & eventually found I liked KDE Plasma which was at version 4. Whilst many griped about it being bloated and heavy, it just worked for me & became my home awhile.
When KDE Plasma moved to version 5, whilst in many ways it still felt like KDE Plasma to me, it just didn't feel the same, and I found myself using Xfce & other desktops more & more.
Kubuntu specifically...
- To me it's just Ubuntu using the KDE Plasma desktop; so it has the benefits of Ubuntu, along with any drawbacks of that system
- I have had some [petty] issues with installing Kubuntu over the years, but Kubuntu has always used Ubuntu installers; initiallyubiquity

- As I have Lubuntu/LXQt installed on a number of boxes; some Kubuntu apps allow better/easier config of the install than Lubuntu/LXQt allow, so those boxes often have a fancier setup than say this box has; as I'm benefiting from tools provided by Kubuntu.
- Kubuntu team are working on Qt6 along with the other flavor teams in getting it ready for oracular (24.10) and hopefully backport to noble (24.04). The Kubuntu team works well with others.
I'm using Ubuntu right now, but I'm running a LXQt desktop (Lubuntu) and this box doesn't havekubuntu-desktop

KDE is the best for a Windows refugee, I also switched to Linux some 6 months ago and KDE is my favorite because not only it's UI is familiar but also it's the most customizable desktop out there.Coming from Windows anything is lighter in my eyes, which is probably why I like KDE, it just seems familiar. I think I might also have a dabble with Xfce as from what I'm reading it's really light and customisable.
Do you have any suggestions on customising the overall look of Konsole? Or perhaps a different terminal application all together?
if you want to play, then you could do worse than XFCE with added conky [a few images]Or perhaps a different terminal application all together?
I'm not sure if you read my mention of bloat as specific to KDE Plasma 4, and not about the KDE Plasma desktop itself.Coming from Windows anything is lighter in my eyes, which is probably why I like KDE, it just seems familiar.
