I have Mint Cinnamon V20.4 on 64 bit Dell Latitude E5430 laptop. Firefox V95.*
My Windows 7 desktop PC has FF V102.5. I tried to update FF on Linux laptop
via Software manager, but it seems an update is not available!
I launched FF, looked at "Help"' "About FireFox" and saw (besides version),
"Update disabled by your system administrator"!!
What should I do? Thank You in advance, John

I would suggest downloading Firefox from Mozilla.
The current stable version of Firefox is 107.1.0

Personally, I would leave it alone.

Is Firefox behaving itself ?

If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Update is controlled by the admin - that is root.

Firefox will continue to update normally, as new updates are rolled out through the normal channels. There's no reason to change anything. This message has existed for a couple of versions.

Edit: I'm pretty sure that's what's going on. I'm not 100% sure, but pretty sure. It's not using its own update mechanism. It's using the system's update mechanism.

Hi,
Which version of Mint are you using because in Mint 21 FF is at version 107. So I'm assuming your using an older version than that. Or maybe you upgrade to 21 from 20 and It did not change all the apt repositories.
In any event you should be able to upgrade fire for to at least version 107.

You can actually run as many instances of firefox on your machine as you like. They will each create their own profile in your home directory so they don't interfere with each other. So for example, you can have your distro's current firefox from the distro's repo, the latest vanilla firefox from mozilla, and any other firefox that you fancy. Some less recent firefoxes do have niggly issues which can be difficult to resolve, one in particular being the capacity to log into some web sites that other browsers like brave and palemoon have no trouble with. Instead of spending a lot of time nutting through the firefox configs and discussion lists trying to resolve the issue, it may be easier to just open up another browser without the same issue. That's been my experience.

run from the terminal
Code:
sudo apt update
if it shows any upgrades available run
Code:
sudo apt upgrade -y
if there is an upgrade this will get it

Another option is to add the Firefox PPA
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install firefox

After some further digging, I think the organization is "Mint", not 'root'. If you look at the settings, it says the browser is being managed by your organization. That'd be Mint - meaning they package Firefox themselves and provide it as a system update.

It still updates just fine. There's no need to change anything. It has had this message for at least a few versions. I noticed it several versions ago. It still updates just fine when an update is released. It just has wonky messages, presumably because it's not using its own update mechanism and because it's not really Firefox but is Firefox as packaged by Linux Mint.

UPDATE: My friend gave me the wrong procedure that did not "work".
That is why I posted this "thread" (post). He later discovered his error
and informed me to select "Administration" in main menu. Next, scroll
down to "Update Manager". After I did that, I had NO trouble getting
the updates for Firefox, etc. Now I have FireFox V107
