Hmm... I don't have an answer, but I do have a question.

What happens if you 'ping archive.ubuntu.com'?

Sorry you having problems .
It would be helpful to let us know which distro and Desktop your using.
Also go to a terminal and type this command.
Code:
inxi -Fxxxxzr
If your on ubuntu you will have to install inxi first
Code:
sudo apt install inxi
Then post the output here.

Software sources list of Linux Mint 20.3: how to repair it

Nowhere do I see the repo you have listed on any official Linux Mint mirror list. You'll most likely have to edit sources by hand using mirrors listed say, here -- https://linuxmint.com/mirrors.php. Refer to the link above.

It's just one of those things that has to be done by hand. Begin with
Code:
/etc/apt/sources.list
, then take a look at those lists in the directory
Code:
 /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
and edit as necessary with a text editor or midnight commander (mc). Duplicates will cause problems.

Beware PPAs and backports -- use them only if known and trusted.

Perhaps ask some Mint user here for his/her repo list, as an example to start from.

G'day Rick,

Ping came back with 64 bytes from actiontoad.canonical.com(185.125.190.36) icmp _seq1 ttl=57 time=10.2 ms
and then many more lines with different times.

Thanks for your reply but I don't really know what I'm doing so would probably need further help with editing lists & the like, I'm not confident with stuff like that & would be worried about making it worse.

I had this issue on my wife's desktop running Mint XFCE (Fresh install) but then also noticed the same issue on my laptop running Mint Cinnamon. so I wondered if it was a coincidence or a global issue but I don't see many others reporting it.

One other thing, when my laptop has been running fine for ages with main & base mirrors pointing to my local (UK) mirrors has it suddenly changed to alternative mirrors which are seemingly unreachable, I haven't made any changes myself.

I will do that but as an inexperienced Linux user how do I install inxi please.
Thanks for thr reply
See my last reply. It tells you how to install inxi.
If your using Mint inxi is already installed.

I usually use
University of Kent for ISO downloads,
UK dedicated mirrors for my mint updates
Ubuntu main server for Ubuntu package updates

I will do that but as an inexperienced Linux user how do I install inxi please.
Usualy as @kc1di said in his post, BUT you may have to run sudo apt update first

IF you don't wish to use the terminal, then open mint software package manager put inxi in the search box, select and install

Thanks all, will read your replies properly later, however I have my two young grandsons demanding my attention right now so I'll come back later if you don't mind. Thanks again

Incidentally Brickwizard mentioned that he usually uses University of Kent mirrors, well that is what my laptop was set to & has been for some time & I have not knowingly changed it ??

Also I should mention just in case it was a corrupted kernel I turned the system back to a previous kernel just for testing purposes but it made no difference so I have now booted back into the latest kernel.

Thanks to all for continued support, sorry it's taking a while to reply sometimes but as I said the Grandchildren are here & will not give me a minutes peace at the moment.:)

Only for downloading the ISO for Mint updates, I use UK dedicated mirrors for my mint updates

I am not spotting any problems with your set up

Grandchildren are here

Family, especially grandchildren, come first. We're a patient bunch and generally not in any rush.

Also, I just noticed this:

"It will not allow me to change mirrors."

Maybe open that program (I don't know what it's called on Mint) from the terminal with sudo - and then try to change the mirrors in accordance with @Condobloke's suggestion?

Hi & thanks for the answer, however I did however do exactly that but it will not allow me to change mirrors, when clicking on the main or base mirrors nothing happens for a few minutes then finally a list of mirrors does come up but they all say unreachable except three UK servers at the top which is ok as that's what I want to use but clicking on any them does absolutely nothing until about five minutes later when a box pops up with an error about being unable to to download repository indexes as I attached in original post.
