Hey forum pals.

A friend of mine shared screenshots of his playing around with Unreal Engine 4 IDE for Linux. As he's a FOSS enthusiast, I got curious and googled it instantly.

Turns out it's been made available free.

State-of-the-art Unreal AAA game/general 3d development, free of charge.

You can download the engine and use it for everything from game development, education, architecture, and visualization to VR, film and animation. When you ship a game or application, you pay a 5% royalty on gross revenue after the first $3,000 per product, per quarter. It’s a simple arrangement in which we succeed only when you succeed. https://www.unrealengine.com/blog/ue4-is-free

I searched Unreal on linux.org and it returned no entries, so I thought it might be worth noting.

The code is not quite opensource unless you already had access to it before the Free release. Or you are a student who gets exclusive access to the engine code for free via Github. :p

There are packages for installing UE 4 in the AUR if anyone wants to try it:
*NOTE:These will build UE 4.7..you will have to modify for UE 4.8 or newer.
