I bought an acer aspire A51515 about a month back.It has a core i5 8th gen processor, 8 gigs of ram, and ask me if you need something else. It came preinstalled with Ubuntu, but for some reason the retailer installed windows 10 after i bought it. So i installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with USB installation, completely erasing the disk first in the installation options menu. The problem now is that where people say Ubuntu takes 10 seconds to boot, my laptop takes about 5 minutes.I'm relatively new to Linux so i have'nt really tried much except reinstalling Ubuntu 3 times or so.
output of dmesg-

yes i have, infact i've installed Ubuntu thrice already

Have you disabled safe boot ?......there is another member online... @wizardfromoz who may care to tune in here......this is his forte....

in the meantime, have a read HERE

Stick's not in there, Brian, or it would show as ID-2: /dev/sdb1 or similar, in the inxi -F output.

G'day @actuday from another Aussie and welcome. :)

(Wizard appears in a puff of smoke)

Do you know if you have GParted installed?

Code:
apt-cache policy gparted

... will reveal.

If not installed

Code:
sudo apt-get -y install gparted

will install it.

See if you can take a screenshot of your partition setup using GNOME's Screenshot and upload it here.

If you need help Posting an image, read my thread here
