When you run stuff like ip a you might get a whole lot of information, depending on how many network devices you've got going on and things like virtual networks that are ready for when you're running a VM. It can be pretty cluttered.

Most folks really only use one network interface device. They either use ethernet or wireless to connect to the network (and then to the internet). They really only need to know about a single device.

Sell, sure enough, you can do that with the 'ip' command. In fact, it's pretty simple - and so isn't the article...
