SFTP is a much, much better idea. Still, FTP is still out there and it's easy enough to get working. I use it on my local network sometimes when I want to move files with an FTP client - though, really, that's just silly. If you don't want to give a user SSH access, FTP is quite a bit more restrictive while allowing them to move files.

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is still a useful, if less secure, and quick way to transfer files from one computer to another.
