I am experiencing a critical system stability issue on Ubuntu that does not occur on Windows 10 or previous Ubuntu versions (21.04):

Hardware Details:
  • Laptop Model: ASUS TUF 506
  • Operating Systems: Dual-boot Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS and Windows 10
  • Kernel Version: 6.8.0-50-generic

1. System Completely Freezes:
- The laptop becomes entirely unresponsive
- No keyboard or mouse input works
- Only option is to force shutdown using the power button

2. Fan Behavior:
- All laptop fans activate simultaneously
- Fans run at maximum speed during the freeze
- This occurs suddenly and unexpectedly

Environment:
  • Previous Ubuntu version (21.04): No such issues observed
  • Windows 10: System operates normally and no problem

G'day Faraz95, Welcome to Linux.org

I am assuming this happens when the system is fully installed ?

It does not happen when you boot to the usb stick....to the 'Live' environment ?

I think the next step may be to leave htop running in a terminal window and then induce a freeze (but keep the terminal visible so resize windows as needed). I'm thinking CPU overheating, because of fans, but you'd need to confirm it since it there's a small chance of RAM being maxed out (though I looked up your model, Amazon says 8GB memory, so you'd need on hell of a memory leak to freeze it) or have some bad blocks (but if Windows is running I doubt this -- still may be due diligence to run memtest86).

Side questions:
1. Separate /home /var and /tmp partitions or not?
2. A /swap partition, swap file, or no swap?
3. Current disk use and free space?

Get rid of windoze...problem solved...or install Ubuntu and run windoze as a VM.
