I'm excited for the Superbowl today since I live in the Philly area and am an Eagles fan. :)

Go Birds!!

I'm not a big sports fan at all and at best a "fair weather fan" - If the Steelers were in the super bowl I'd watch but other than that, I'll pass, so to speak. Plus, if I watched it this year I'd have to listen to the ranting of a family member who hates both teams (and she's a Windows user!).

Maybe next year. Go Stillers.

My favorite team was horrible this year. I'm a die-hard (sort of) 49ers fan.

I'm not so much of a fan that I call them 'my team', nor do I use the term 'we'. I don't own the team and I am not on the team.

But, I've watched almost every 9ers game this year and quite a few others. I actually like watching college football quite a bit.

As my favorite team is not playing, I'll root for Philly with you. I'd like the people I know to be happy and I don't know a single Chiefs fan, but there's bound to be a few. I did root for the Packers after it was clear the 9ers weren't going to do well. I have a good buddy who lives there and is a huge fan. So, I figured I'd root for 'em to make him happy.

Also...

I thought about making an off-topic "American Football 2024 to 2025 Season" thread and keeping it going throughout the season.

I didn't figure I'd get much feedback or participation, so I never made said thread.

But, I'm a SF 49ers fan, through and through. They're my favorite team, even when they suck.

While I live in Maine, I'm decidedly not a Patriots fan. Brady was one heck of a QB but that didn't make me a fan. Heck, I lived in the Boston area for a whole bunch of years and I'm still not a Patriots fan. I don't deny that they (eventually) did great things. I just don't like them.

That's a good idea - I bet it'd get some good conv going each week. Maybe we'll start a 'MLB' one for the upcoming year.

I am not a baseball fan. I used to be. I even did some pitching and was a solid position hitter. I was never really a power hitter but I was pretty good at hitting the ball where I wanted it to go. In the past, I was a Toronto fan.

I also used to have a zillion baseball cards. I wonder what those would be worth today? I had complete sets from about 1970 to 1982 or so, plus a ton of doubles and triples. Sometime in the mid-80s is when I mostly lost the time and interest. I've never gotten back into it.

I'm a terrible New Englander. I'm not a Red Sox fan. I'm not a Patriots fan. I don't care about basketball enough to have a favorite team. I did play some hockey growing up, so I am a bit of a Bruins fan. I don't follow the sport, however.

While I have you here...

There's a character limit of 450 characters on profile posts. I am assuming that's just the default. I think it could be a more useful feature, giving people a place to put things that'd otherwise end up in off-topic, a place where they can post stuff and then refer to it later. I figure we can change that value (somewhere, I haven't looked) to something more lenient, like 10,000 characters or whatever the settings are for regular thread posts.

Those are just my initial thoughts on the matter. I could be overlooking something.

Let me start the ball rolling with general note to everyone:

"Your team sucks!"

There. That should get things started. ;)

It's like distro bashing, only with wider applicability. Works for MLB, NFL, FIFA, whatever.

Did not know that - yeah, if you can find the setting, feel free to increase it :)

Well, that was easy enough...

I just used the search and typed in 'profile'. It took a second to list the results and, amusingly enough, the exact result I needed floated its way to the top. I set it at 30k, which might be a bit high. I just know that's the default at other sites I've frequented over the years.

While not here, I've posted at some sites with a bit too much wine and bumped into that limit in the past! (Yay for wine-fueled rambling posts!)

I know what a bowl of soup is,

I've always been an AFL fan so Go Chiefs. But my favorite team was not in contention this year may next. Just enjoy the game. will stream it here since I don't get Fox on the air.

I know what a bowl of soup is,

It is the American football championship. American football is quite popular in the UK, being broadcast throughout the season. The NFL (the American football's collective) even play in the UK. They play at least one game in the UK but I think they played two there this year. They also played one in Germany and have been playing one in Mexico for a while now.

Oh now i know what you're on about, I am not a great sports fan, but I did play Rugger at school, that's the one where you don't run in full body armour and grass burns are obligatory in every game

that's the one where you don't run in full body armour

If modern American football players played without their protection, it would either be a very different game or they'd pretty much die on the field. So, it'd probably be a different game 'cause we'd not watch it if people constantly died on the field. Well, some of us wouldn't watch it.

These guys are massive and run at speeds similar to the speeds of Olympic competitors. Many of them are absolute giants who can still jump 4' in the air and press 400 lbs with their neck. Their diet and exercise hone them into absolute peak physical condition (for the role they're in). They're paid millions of dollars and cost the team millions more just to keep them in peak condition.

I figure that, in my absolute peak, I'd have maybe been able to survive being tackled a half dozen times before I was too broken and battered to keep going. (My absolute peak would probably be when I graduated boot came and became a Marine.)

The team I kind of follow made it to the same bowl they've been in the last 30 years, the toilet bowl. I'll let everyone guess what team that is (if you're even just a casual follower, you'll know right off the bat).

I don't know much about NFL, but I'll go for the team with the Aussie in it...the Eagles.

The game will be shown live here in Australia today (Monday) Feb 10.

NFL players wouldn't last long playing Rugby League...that's for sure. No helmets...no padding and on the field for 40 minutes each half...that's football.

I really don't want KC to win but odds are they will. They've got a pretty solid team.

Philly does have a slightly better record, as I recall. But, KC is a tough team to beat. Vegas has KC winning but not by a huge amount. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

I have beer for tonight, because that's what you drink when watching football. One does not drink wine and watch football.

I have been known to watch some Aussie football, with the strange rules and strange kicking rules. I was even assigned a team to be my favorite. Go Blues!

I don't care who wins on a count of I bet on both teams to win so regardless of who wins or loses I'm a winner either way.

Now that being out of the way I'd like to see the

stomp a mud hole in the KC Chiefs on a count of KC Chiefs already won the Super Bowl last two times.

It's on now 10AM to 3PM Sydney time.
