Starting from scratch?

I just bought a computer interface on ebay for music studio equipment. I have a digital Yamaha O2R mixer and an Alesis HD 24 digital hard drive recorder. I bought a Motu 2408 and a Motu 323PCI card. These are not the newest generation equipment but are all light pipe equipped and adat ready. I was thinking of putting together a puter with only Linux on it to record and mix analog, digital and midi audio on. Last time I tried Linux I really had a difficult time with it and could not get anything to work. What do ya think, should I go for it, can I get help here? I didn't come here last time.

I will look into those links, thanx. First I have to get a puter together, install Linux, download some software and see if I can get it working. I probably won't have a puter together for it for a couple of weeks. Have to look at my options.
