Spam...

I'll bet the invader(s) read all this and is having a climax. Keep newbie posts invisible until endorsed, deny the prize - problem solved.

I think most of our members have enough savvy not to open any spam post, or if they want to take a look then open it in a sandbox
I am happy to see that spam posts have been removed, I believe the administrators of this useful and interesting linux.org community can prevent such events from happening again. I ❤️ linux.org

Don't get your hopes up. It'll happen again. There will always be spam here. We'll remove it when we see it and do what we can to prevent you from ever seeing it - but spammers are dedicated to their task and have more time to devote to the task than we have to mitigate the problem.

It's okay. We'll deal with it when it happens. That's one of the reasons we're here.

That is a certainty. Perhaps today. The time in Australia right now is 11:17 AM.....the onset of spam crap is generally around 1:00 PM...so another couple of hours will tell the tale

Why wouldn't they return....they had open slather here for 4 hours +

Every time I check in here, it seems I’ve just missed an attack. :/

You must have been born under a lucky star, young drummer lad, lol.

I obviously cannot go into detail here about what methods we use, both automated and manual, lest the spammers be tipped off.

You can believe that we do everything within our power to minimise disruption to Members, and that we are exploring for better solutions.

That was interesting, @Windmill , about

xinjinrenli262

visiting other sites.

Cheers

I nuked another one. That one spammer had made multiple attempts.

So, they start around 10:00PM, middle of America time...

I know something about cybersecurity, certain things are the order of the day and there is even worse than just spam, It's a never-ending fight but the important thing is always to fight against.

Thank you, and always forward!!

I'd compare fight against spam the same way as a fight for privacy - both are equally never ending issue.

I am cutting down on my time spent on chasing spammers, so...
I will only mark 2 from each spammer, the first mark will be Elma Fudd hunting and the second just tagged, and in the report box spam or tag [the boys know what I mean], from what I understand of the system any reported post gain priority in the Mods in tray, before they have multiple times the amount of crap that has been caught in the auto filter.
Furthermore, I will also post in this thread, any of our active colleges will see who has already been tagged and will not need to duplicate the work.

Hint: You only need to report one. Save some energy.

Your efforts are appreciated.
so i saw you can report a user and a thread, i guess that reporting the user is enough, right?

Reporting the user is fine. If anything, I'd prefer you only report them once. It keeps down on the clutter.

You only need to spam-banhammer 'em once to deal with all their posts and clear up all the reports.

Yep,
1:16 PM Monday 23 September 2024......they most certainly are.
