Spam...

Is it not possible to just delay newbie posts long enough to give moderatorship enough relief while the prize gets denied?
You have to count how many newbies will turn away from forums with such limitations.
I myself have have not returned to forums that put limitations on my posting soon after registering.

When people have problem they want to have it fixed ASAP and if that's not possible they'll go post somewhere else and will normally receive reply sooner.

Well, no one likes spam either. I would say measures against spam has priority over thinking about real new users signing up because of most of them aren't here for the long run anyways and the regular long term members(and the mods/admins) have to deal with the spam posts that get posted if a measure to make it harder on the spammers isn't taken.

Somewhere else, but where?!

Actually i'd push it even further by also suggesting that presentation is made mandatory and its viewing restricted to members only so to deny display without a log in, while giving no access at all anywhere else. Few spammers would take the time to write such letter only to find out their trophy ain't visible to the rest of the world, which i figure might be their main motivation, to demonstrate and/or get that piece of trash registered by bots...

Instead of putting limitations on a site for all new users I would rather spend time to write anti-spam filters and put on hold only posts that look like spam.

All of spam post we see here is so obvious it's spam that it would take less than a day to write a filter for it.

Our spammer has tried a new trick today,

Not so new... I clobbered a few over the last few days with the same method.

I may be offline for a chunk of the weekend as our National Broadcasting Network does maintenance, but @Rob is aware of this and looking into it.

TIA for your patience and cooperation.

Laws aren't made for the 90% that follow the law but for the 10% that will cause trouble no matter what the laws are. Same could be applied to the safety and well-being of the forum, except translating it to forum safety measures and forum guidelines.

Just to clarify, I didn't mean to downplay our administrators, I understand that forum software is 3rd party project so customizing it might not be possible in all ways and as easy as to taking only one day to do this or that.

It would probably be much easier for custom made forum.

that's a good excuse, are you sure it's not the latest batch of homebrew ready for testing:p

I wish.

If they get through with maintenance early I'll be on for much of the weekend, got some music to post.

Nite.

All right, i don't want to sound too pressing. But if the rule were to post 1 "private-club" introduction, only 1, and need to wait for endorsement via love points from upgraded members then this would keep the post invisible without any moderator intervention while instant gratification being denied it might very well end there...

Thanks to the admin's for all their work. I did not see much of the spam here. But have not been that active for a few days. Our Admins are doing a good job :)

There wasn't too much when I cleared the queue earlier. I'm back home now and don't see any new instances.

to all members,

too many too fast to tag them all, spam reported....

@Rob

I think you need to take a look here, mate

approx 65 spam post in the last 2 hrs and 5 minutes....and counting

The "latest posts" shows nothing but crap..

is it a feasible idea.... to have someone here through the day to "put the obvious cases in a ""holding bin""....for Chris or David or Jason or yourself to deal with more permanently later...?

In other words, (( recognising that it is not feasible to expect a Moderator to be present every minute of the day))....someone who spends a fair amount of their time on here, and is willing to do so. The 'wee' hours of the usa and europe in general appears to be the "hit" time, so a person or persons who live outside those timeframes would be ideal ?.

apart from being an annoyance, they must be as thick as buffalo poo, this is an English only site and very few of us read/speak any dialect of Chinese,

Geez, Brian @Brickwizard, I hope you asked their permission to post here !.....it at least looks like they own the site !

Thick as bricks the lot of em

if they had a brain between them, it'd be lonely

They have gotta be here for the money.

Just how the whole thing works....I have zero idea..

But surely they would have to have better things to do with their time....the majority of these bozos are in their early twenties !

What's a joke by some Chinese time wasters? maybe they think it's funny?
I think most of our members have enough savvy not to open any spam post, or if they want to take a look then open it in a sandbox
