Am I supposed to call 1 800 GO LINUX?
It has been pretty tame during today's shift. That's a good thing. I suspect the lull is due to the spammers realizing that it's pretty pointless to spam here. At the end of the day, spammers are businesses. They're in it to make money. Posting here is wasting time and effort, so there's no real reason to do so.

I just figured I'd make something clear...
The way the reports system works means that it's a pain in the butt at times.
If you reported spam and did not get a reply from me, that means that I agreed and 'spam cleaned' the user. If I did then reply, it would open the report again - and I'd have to comment in the report again to close it. I used to do that.
So, if you report something for spam and don't hear from me - that means I acted on it. On the rare times you do hear from me, that means I don't agree that it is spam - or is not yet spam, as some folks like to report users who haven't posted or edited their profile.

This just makes more sense to me. So, it's good that we're on the same page.
Sometimes, there are quite a few reports to wade through.

I checked the site much earlier than normal because I had a few minutes to spare.
Sure enough, we had plenty of spam in the queue. I don't mind that too much because you, the end user, never sees that spam. That stuff gets whacked before you even see it - which is nice.

Just a few minutes ago was a good situation to take a screenshot and show you what you're missing out on...
If new users wonder why they have to be manually approved, this is a good example why.
This time it was just one user and relatively easy to clean up. (I just spam clean the user once and it takes care of all of that, among other things.)
Anyhow, this is why we have manual approval for new users.
You don't want the forum choked up with garbage like that, do you?

I assume it is yourself that squashes all those new memberships with Chinese Gambling sites as screen names.

Anyhow, I just had to clean a bunch more. I suspect we're being targetted again.
Only if someone lets me know, or if I happen to notice. But, when I see 'em I nuke 'em.
Also, their Vietnamese - I think... At least more often than not - when I bother checking with a translator. (I use a translator that works right in the browser. It's pretty handy and identifies the language for me.)

Spammers don't adhere to the rules. That's kind of an underlying trait.
Indeed. I give this site enough of my time. I rely on you folks to report those particular accounts.
And, please do report them...
And, they don't make posts - they edit their profile. They may even leave a profile comment.
