Ubuntu is Gnome 3, right? If so, here's a tutorial:

It doesn't look too complicated.

It was just an example that they are available for Ubuntu, it was implied that you could search for the right packages for the distribution you run. You need the Debian packages since Ubuntu's ppa's don't work with Debian, although it seems like wallch is not a good choice anymore since it has been discontinued. Variety and Shotwell are available in the debian repositories.

If I were you I would remove that ppa from your sources since ppa's aren't meant for Debian. It has either been added as a file in this location: /etc/apt/source.list.d/ or to this file /etc/apt/source.list. Just some advice, you should learn that there is a difference between Ubuntu and Debian and between the different distributions because not all repositories can be shared among distributions. Start with this and I think this will also benefit you.

i have installed variety ,but i am not able to change desktop background even after restarting

With a little research/searching you could have figured it out yourself.
How to Add applications to Startup:
1. Install tweak-tool: sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool
2. Open tweak-tool: Click on Activities -> search for Tweaks
3. Startup Applications: Click on Startup Applications
4. Add Applications to startup: Click on the plus sign and select the applications you want to automatically startup.

When I did this variety was already added to "Startup Applications", so you probably forgot to configure Variety, so that is probably going to be your next question.

How to configure Variety:
1. Open variety: Click on activities, search for variety and open.
2. General Settings: Under general settings select when and how often you want to variety to change the wallpapers.
3. Image settings: Select from which locations you want the wallpapers to load from or click add to add a folder with already download wallpapers.
4. How often and where: Select how in what time frame a new wallpaper should automatically been download and what the limit of the download folder should be in MB(Megabytes)
5. Optional: You can change the favorite location of the wallpaper favorites.

FYI I have never used Variety, and I got this done in less than 5 minutes.
