I have also just received error 100. It just won't go any further.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
shim-signed : Depends: grub-efi-amd64-signed (>= 1.191~) but 1.187.6+2.06-2ubuntu14.4 is to be installed or

And when entering ‘inxi -r’ in the second terminal:

Welcome to Linux.org

You have also posted at LinuxMint.com

This is not advisable. Either use over there or here....not both.

Conflicting info and advice can make life hard for all concerned, including you.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
TRY
open terminal and run [in order]
sudo apt update && apt --fix-missing -y
sudo apt update && apt upgrade -y
sudo autoremove

Decide where you want to post and then post there.

Otherwise, this thread is likely to be locked.

I have always done a clean install...works great.

@Brickwizard
Thank you for your help. I was too impatient and had shut down the PC. Then started with LinuxMint on a USB stick, reset everything via Timeshift and restarted the PC. Apart from Redshift, which I had to reinstall, everything is working again so far. If I try to upgrade from 21.3 to 22.0 again, I now have some help which I can then try. But the shock is still in my bones.
If I try again, I'll post my results here.
Many thanks for your help!
