Hi everyone,

I used Wine to play a preinstalled windows game, but my other games don't work... Either I get a steam error and game crashes on launch or some games launch but with menu screens pitch black... I have Ryzen 3 CPU with integrated Vega 3 GPU. I updated wine and downloaded steam (Linux version), same issues...

I know user CaffeineAddict recommended a different way but I can't recall... Does anyone have a stable reliable way of playing windows games on Linux?

Heroic Game Launcher is nice, but I am having the same problems as with Wine...
One game gives a Steam Error and crashes on launch. The other one launches, but the menus are pitch black and impossible to navigate... (maybe dx problem?)

Yes, Steam, Lutris and Bottles. You didn't even mention the name of the game you are trying to play?

Thanks. Lutris sounds familiar.

I'm playing Beach Buggy Racing 2 without any problems, even full controller support.

When I try run Off-Road Drive I get a Steam error. (I never had Steam on my windows computer that ran this game fine.)

When I run Street Fighter X Tekken the game loads, all sound works, controller support works but the menus are all pitch black and impossible to navigate.

They look like old games so your hardware can't be the problem, I would think. I'll only tell you what I do when I have a Steam game that doesn't work as expected. I look it up on protondb.com and check the the comments to see what other people did and check what Proton version they used.

For Off-Road drive try Proton 6.3.5 or 7.0.4, for Street Figher X Tekken try 6.3-8. If you can't find those specific versions try 6.3.x and 7.0.x. Uou should be able to select them from the Steam Compatibility menu or you can select it per game, right click on game and select compatibility If neither of those work try installing ProtonGE and using that. You can use this tool for that.

Thank you. I'll give it a try

My method that works in say 90% of the cases is Lutris with wine-ge, and if not working then I install wine-staging from wineHQ and use that in Lutris to run games, this fixes games which don't usually run with wine-ge.

But I play only GOG games in spite of DRM, all of them except 1 (Revival Recolonization [because it's very new]) work with this method.

Preinstalled where? and how?
I think you should (re)install game with runner you're trying to launch the game with.

Awesome thanks! I'll give that a try.

My games are mostly from steamunlocked so they come in a zip file and when extracted it is the entire install directory with the launch exe somewhere in there..

Thank you, this works. I installed a few GOG games and they all work fine.

My "steam" games are hit and miss still. I could only get Proton 7.27 earliest version and that didn't work either.

I tested The Forest and it works fine, so 2 games work so far

For anyone reading this in the future, The problem was solved by:

1. Redownloading my games. (Some files must have been corrupted while I moved them back and forth during backup and OS installation)

2. Installing PhysX with Winetricks (This helped compatibility with all the games that still gave errors)

All my games work perfectly (even ones that required me to find and download dll files and manually place them in the correct folder on Windows)... I also think that using a game launcher with all the compatibility tweaks, surprisingly makes gaming better on Linux than Windows
