Hey! I'm currently on my first Linux, Mint, and I'm not the greatest with computers. How do I know if my computer can handle a second monitor? and how do I set that up?

Thanks!

G;day Jess, Welcome to linux.org

First Linux Mint...Congrats !

Now, tell us what the PC is that you put it on.

Desktop or laptop
model etc....any type?...etc...laptops always have a make and model....
HDD or SSD....what type of drive?
RAM....how much

anything else that will describe your computer

Depends on your hardware setup. Ive been lucky and haven't had any issues with just plugging it in and it is good to go.

I'm honestly not sure what it is. It's a desktop and got a Dell shell at least. Here is some info that popped up when I typed in a code in the terminal(for a different problem). I hope it helps.

Do you already have a 2nd monitor ?

If so, I would simply plug it in, and see what you get

Welcome @JessBUrself
In short, yes, you can run multiple monitors. You have one HDMI port (connected in the picture), the other two are DisplayPorts, and it looks like you have a DP cable (in the picture). I see the monitor (in the picture) has HDMI/DP/VGA. So you're good.

BTW: What you picked up is a great workhorse. Those Optiplex machines will go for years and you can throw in a low-profile GT710 or something if you just wanna take the load off the iGPU -- you could even play a few of the older games. Good choice on your first Linux distro

Thank you everyone. When I get the time and energy to try it, I'll plug in the other monitor to see what happens. and I'll let you know how it goes.

EDIT: It works! Thanks so much for all the help!
