Skype does work on Linux. I have used it before to talk to family when I was travelling quite a bit and cell service was spotty out in the sticks.

I have been running 2.2 Beta for Linux for several months and have been quite happy with it. I don't use a webcam or do group chats, but have it on almost always and does the job for me. I installed it on my PCLOS system using the Synaptic Package Manager and the only glitch was configuring my sound, but that was fixed by playing around for a few minutes.
