rsync -au will it replace old files with less size?

Hello,

im using rsync -au from one folder to another
i want to ask if in source folder at a time of sync is built an file (big tgz backup is created at a time of rsync is executed) and so result is that on destination will be an incomplete file.

on next rsync, will the destination file be updated to be exact copy of source or will it be skipped and destination will have an bad/incomplete file?

if -au will not update that file, please which other swithches i need to use? (i would like to use backup switch as this is a backup) Thank you

Should do what you want, at least in my experience.
