Despite a reboot, I cannot access software sources to change to another mirror

Have patience....it may well be short lived.

The site checks out ok so it may be something your end.
if you can change the mint server, try one of the UK hosts they are often faster.

Brian,
Trying to open Software Sources in the update Manager is a lost cause....simply will not open.

Have rebooted. Internet connection appears ok otherwise.

Will reboot again shortly and kick the modem etc off and on as well

I note that on the fastly repository, a couple of others have also experienced similar outage

I'll put my money on the fastly mirror......it was giving trouble 4 days ago....and apparently still is

There are 4 updates available...Chromium, Thunderbird, Miny Locale, and packagekit

mint locale and package kit, both installed without fanfare

The two larger updates, chromium and T'bird are unresponsive, and throw the error

I am a patient man. I will wait.

I read this Fastly thing is on long term trial to raise the download speed, but with the number of complaints saying how slow it is, I am surprised they are still using it [one report was download speed of 300kb] the consensus from the post I have seen is go back to local repositories

I have used fastly since they bought it online

I have found it inconsistent...although over the past month or so it appears to be doing really well...consistent speeds and always available.

Todays little episode has blown that consistency right out of the water

Clem will not be pleased !

I have had such an error when trying to get a daily update for Metasploit straight from Rapid7. This means that one or more files your package manager was looking for on their web site was not found. It means the web site got screwed up. You might try contacting them about it, if they have contact information. Otherwise you'll have to wait for them to fix it.

A mirror should be exactly that, a copy of the original, and if the original is screwed up that way then all of the mirrors should have the same problem. A package manager reaches out to a web site with a specific structure and expects that structure to be intact. When it is not this kind of thing happens. This is not your fault, or the fault of your computer.

I asked microsoft's Co-Pilot about this a while back, about how such package repositories are organized. I was considering hosting my own once, well, more like a passing thought really.

Signed,

Matthew Campbell

For the want of something better to do, I altered /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

so that the reference to fastly there was taken out and replaced with the original...: http://packages.linuxmint.com

Saved that. And then accessed software sources........refreshed the page to show the default settings....

The updates promptly installed and that is the end of that

Fastly....can get itself fixed before I will ever try it again. I really do have better things to do.

I haven't had any problems...well not yet but I'm running Cinnamon 21.1.

@bob466 Linux Mint 21.1/3 is damn good....in every way

The point release for LM22 will hopefully be interesting....it is due out in December

It may even bring LM22 up to par with LM21.3
