I'm curious about your browsing-fu...
Are you fan of bookmarks or having a lot of tabs open? or perhaps you balance both approaches?

To answer first, I'm fan of bookmarks, I have some 6K of them and I get nervous when there are more than 8 tabs open so I close tabs as soon as they're read and no longer useful.

Please cast your vote and tell a bit about your browsing-fu!

bookmarks get saved after reboots. Do tabs?

Can you export and import tabs, like you do bookmarks, without installing an extension?

I didn't vote there isn't an option that fits my use.

I use bookmarks that I save to a folder although I've noticed over time some of the bookmarks give the 404 error.

I may have three tabs open at one time maybe.

I'm afraid that's impossible, never heard of it.

But what you can is create a sync account with Firefox (or which ever browser you use) and then your open tabs will persist for as long as you sign into browser service.

Ah sorry, that method was far away from my mind, I'll add "other" to the list.

Bookmarks here, 2-3 tabs open max, I didn't suspect there are other ways to navigate the internet. What do you do with tabs when you close the browser? Didn't they close and been lost

It’s rare for me to have more than 5 or 6 tabs open at once, usually if I’m looking something up and cross referencing. But I also use a LOT of bookmarks.
So for me it’s more of a balanced mix of both.

I usually only have as many tabs as I need open. But I don’t keep them open perpetually. If it’s something I might need to revisit in the future, I’ll store a bookmark before closing the tab.

When I close my browser I want all things to be over, I don't want it to remember my last session, so I must have configured it like that long time ago and I don't remember doing it

These two things aren't similar in my mind. How do you say you only use tabs or only use bookmarks? I use both, and have hundreds, if not a few thousand bookmarks, all neatly arranged in folders by topics (Sports, News, Finance, Linux, Work, etc). But I also use tabs, lots of them sometimes. For example, I will get on Wiki and just start reading. When I find something I want to read next, I middle-click on the link so it opens in a new tab. I will have 20+tabs opened and get to the end and wonder how I got down that rabbit hole :) I will be a long ways away from the starting topic by the time I'm finished.

So my use is bookmarks to keep sites easily accessible, and bookmarks to keep track of what I want to read, research, etc.

I know of people who have 10's of tabs open all the time, up to 100 if not more but do not use bookmarks at all.

My question was why not using bookmarks, and their answer in addition to "it's habit" was that modern browsers now have vertical tabs feature so it's easy to manage many tabs, vertical tabs provide search function and various filtering options.

Firefox has this, but it's called "Firefox view" top left corner.

My experience is the opposite. Tabs can't be backed up. Tabs require more resources, ( every open tab uses memory ).
Yes, you can "login" and sync your bookmarks to the cloud, but that defeats our privacy policies.

Now of course I open multiple tabs during the day, as many as 12 or 15 I would say. But as a rule, if I want to
save a URL, I bookmark, I don't leave hundreds of tabs open.

interesting, have not heard or seen of this approach. on my work PC, i have Edge set to open 4 sites we use all day so i dont have to click any links or bookmarks, so i get that, but at home, i dont need to do that

Chrome (and I assume Chromium) can put tabs to sleep to free resources until you click the inactive tab again. Not sure if Firefox does this

Firefox supports this feature but it's disabled by default on Linux.

From what I understand this only stops animations and network traffic in that tab. Static content remains in memory.

I save no browser history ever and when I close any browser all of my history is deleted.

I just don't get those who have hundreds and hundreds of tabs open at once. I only have about 5 or 6 tabs max opened at once.
