I have spent the last few days setting up a Linux system on my home computer.
I have been updating all my online accounts with new passwords stored in "Passwords and Keys" (Seahorse).
This afternoon i noticed a hundred or so entries in the System Trust section.
Entries like "AAA Certificate Services", "Affirm Trust Premium" etc.
What are these? What would I have done to make them appear? and do i need to be concerned about them?
thanks

Those would be trusted root certificates that are used for things like SSL/TLS transactions on the 'net.

They get updated now and then, as cert providers come and go. I'm not sure what the process is to get included but there are a bunch of 'em.

Lemme see...

Then click on one of the links like this one:

You can see the ones in progress, as well.

You can examine the certs here, but it's a text file that will likely download to your computer (it's just plain text and harmless):

There's one for email if you're curious.

In other words, this should be completely harmless. There have been times when someone nefarious got a way into the lists but that's exceedingly rare and I think they've long-since closed the loophole that allowed that. Now certificates will expire and need to be renewed. This happens behind the scenes and doesn't require your intervention.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that. It really helps.
I was concerned but am reassured - thanks.

You're quite welcome and welcome, also, to Linux.org.

If you're happy with the answer, you can edit your first post to mark it as solved. I can do that for you, if you can't figure it out.

Hmm... Someone (perhaps myself) could make a thread that shows how to mark a post as solved. I can then add that to my signature.

Enjoy and feel free to stick around. We have a Member Introductions section, should you be so inclined.

We like to think we're the friendliest Linux forum on the 'net. ;)
