There are two nVidia drivers available to install. Before I make a mess of things, could someone clarify why is there an option and which one to choose?

sorry its your choice..
invida 510** is the latest version driver, but it doesn't work for everyone
Invida 390** is the legacy driver updated and should work on all but the newest of machines
so take your pick and try one, if it is not satisfactory you can always uninstall it and try the other
