notifications somewhat uncertain

reply was made to an ongoing conversation at 6.48pm......no email notification received. It DID show under the conversations tag on the site

A new topic..."problem with starting ubuntu"...I DID receive email. Strangely enough its presence does not show in 'Alerts'. Go figure.
