Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
- but no sound

Speakers are connected into jack output.

Could anyone help please?

I'm going to assume that your desktop isn't routing the sound output to the correct device. I think the desktop settings can override the system settings sometimes. I know there's a file for everything in LInux, but I don't mess with the files too often and instead use the GUI (many years of supporting Windows). So what I'm going to say is based on my desktop of choice but should be similar for your desktop as well. In KDE, there's the sound volumn icon, I right click on it and choose Configure Audio Volume, which opens the audio configurations for everything within KDE. In the Advanced tab, I can choose what the output device is. Maybe doing this is what you need.
