I am sure this has been asked but I am new. I an thinking about starting to use a Linux operating system. I need microsoft word and power point for my college classes. Is there a good Linux distro that will allow that but also be beneficial for my free time when I want to get more into coding and other things?

You can produce .ppt power-point and .doc using libre office suite

ferenos and I believe Modicia both come with Wine installed, which is needed to run MS apps per se (like Powerpoint and Word). There may be other options, but IMO ferenos my be your best one, as it is ultimately ubuntu-based and most nowadays prefer it for coding, etc
