I just installed Linux Mint 18 on a new cheap ($200) 11-inch Asus Windows 10 Home, 64-bit laptop. The installation was easy but there are issues.
No Asus drivers are available for Linux. Touchpad does not work properly and there is no sound.

1. Are there drivers available anywhere that will work with my Asus?
2. If not, can I purchase another manufacturer's 11 inch laptop that has the drivers I need?

Linux does not work that way. The "drivers" are already there is in Kernel. Does your laptop basically work. apart from the problems you outline. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Touchpad? What specific model of Asus laptop? There are some general fixes e.g.

Sound? Try some of the troubleshooting guides e.g https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

Linux Mint is "based" on Ubuntu
