New Administrator

Thanks, everyone. They still don't let me anywhere near the server, so there should be no wine incidents.

Also, I have heard the song about the Red Back before. I'm not sure where or why.

I did some more clicking because I wanted to confirm something.

I'm not going to go into details but I now have a new (and easy) way to check for people who put spam (lately a lot of Vietnamese casinos) in their profiles.

Hmm... I suppose I could go into details. It wouldn't change anything.

Still, it's access to a tool that I did not have access to before. I need to develop a habit of checking that page on a regular basis. To do so, I'll leave it in an open tab next to this tab. That should help.

This doesn't mean stop reporting them. I still haven't developed a habit and I don't always have a ton of free time.

I'll add MY tuppence-worth. Congrats, David.....and well-deserved (I guess).

Over at BleepingComputer, we mods really ARE glorified janitors. Any decision requiring any weight, we have to kick it upstairs for the GloMos. They in turn have to kick stuff beyond their remit up to the Admins.....who then kick stuff up to Grinler (Lawrence Abrams himself, aka the "Guv'nor").

It's very hierarchical!

-------------------------

On the Puppy Forums, rockedge - our current site founder, web-master & Admin - has just four of us mods. We're ALL GloMos.....and following certain shenanigans, in addition to the MCP we too have access to the ACP. There's very little extra it will let you do, really. I suppose the most useful feature is being able to delete multiple spam posts at once (yes, even we get deluged at times.....tho not very often, thank God).

Basically, being forum staff, although considered a 'privilege', is just a lot of extra unpaid work! Ne'mind; somebody's gotta do it, I suppose.... o_O :p

So; who's in line for the vacant Supermod post? Does anybody deserve it? (Would anybody want it?) :D

Mike. ;)

I sometimes remark that another mod/admin may do something different - and I don't mind if they do.

But, I haven't any issues swinging the ban hammer, if that's required. (It usually isn't, outside of spammers.)

Once in a while, I'll just simply defer to Wiz. He's been at it longer than I have.

I don't think there's a vacancy. I still perform those same jobs. It's a matter of coverage and time zones, more than anything else. I didn't leave, I just got access to a few more tools.

When I leave, that'll be up to someone else. Though, I suppose I may nominate someone to move into my old position. Yes, I will likely leave eventually. Right now, I'm still able to make time for the forum. That may not always be true. Fortunately, nothing is all that pressing - generally speaking. So, I still have time and can move things around to accommodate.

Now that I've been at it a while, there are a number of tools that let me find and nuke spammers. I even have some tools that will help prevent future spammers from signing up.

It takes a bit of time but I like nuking spammers. I think there are more spammers than I have time to kill but their spam seldom reaches the main forum anyhow. There are a lot of sleeper accounts that are tied to other accounts. I like nuking them the best.

Yes, I'm careful with the nuke button. I don't want false positives.

If we had too much spam (as a team, we're pretty good at cleaning it up and preventing it) would cause the search engines to lower our ranking, maybe even de-listing the site entirely. So, keeping a spam-free forum is a priority.

We do a pretty good job at it, if I do say so myself. I'd say our team is top-notch!

Does anybody need an airline with good support or some cheap bitcoins? I just know the right place for you!

So you have got rid of the broom and have been given a jet wash

Have you ever seen those machines that sweep, wash, and buff the floor at the same time?

They let me drive that!

So much of their energy is spent trying to promote Vietnamese casinos. Which, as I've remarked before, is a bit unusual because gambling (unless a state-sanctioned lottery) is illegal in Vietnam.

I still use the brooms, but that's because I can magick them into carrying water buckets. I learned from Mickey Mouse.

I still sometimes like to get into an altered state and watch that movie. I've not seen many movies, but that one I have seen! I have it in HD with remastered audio. I decided to hit up a search engine and I did find the full movie on YouTube (I think - I didn't click through to watch it). I also found just this, which was more appropriate:

Congratulations @KGIII ! :)

Thanks! Yeah, you'd have missed the announcement. I hope you're feeling well.

Congrats David.
