Negativity

I think a lot of us Linux old timers forget that we were once newbies also although I may be wrong.
When are you considered a Linux old-timer?

I kind of get a kick out of the young people who think us older folks can't understand tech.
Yep, my daughter who had seen me pulling computers apart when she was young, had an Acer ZG5 that she could not boot, she had her computer mad [and still is] stepson have a look, and he could not fix it, so she gave it to me when we were visiting and said you like messing with things bet you can't fix this. if my stepson can't you wont,. Challenge on we got home about 3-30 in the afternoon, I plugged it in, and after bashing a few keys got a terminal it was running something called penguin, a quick search of the net told me it was Linux built especially for Acer, another search told me how to bypass the password and re-set everything..then just before 4pm I phoned and ask what was wrong with it, as its working perfectly,. well you may as well keep it she said, fine by me, so I installed Mint 9 32bit, I still have it 3 batteries on and upgraded to its max 1.5 gb ram a 16gb zif in place of the 8gb it came with and a new keyboard currently running 32bit antix.
After this she had problems with the Dell lappy she replaced it with and the wind 7 had lost all the baby photos of our granddaughter, I told her to bring it to me as it may be a long job, using a live pen drive I started finding and saving to another [bigger] pen drive all her pictures, and caused an embarrassment when I was finding pictures she had deleted using windows oops,I wiped the hard-drive and reinstalled W7 and fully updated it for her, a couple of years later she asked if I wanted it as the keyboard didnt work properly and it would not charge, it needed a new daughter board [the connector was broken where it had been dropped pugged in, [cost £5 from e-bay] and a new keyboard [keys were stuck down where she had spilt nail varnish all over it, again from e-bay £14] and it worked perfectly, in fact it is the lappy i use everyday when in the lounge when i say currently using my lappy..

she now asks if i think something is worth fixing or throwing.

You mean when I am dead, then I am a Linux old-timer?

Most users have very poor web habits along with the lack of keeping their computer(s) updated.
lol I run the update command on my system 3x a day or more.

I said WE
Who is we, does that include me? I'm still not understanding the definition of when you are considered a Linux old-timer. Is that when We are dead or when we have have been using Linux for longer than X amount of years?

I'm still not understanding the definition of when you are considered a Linux old-timer. I
When we are fitted for a final wooden overcoat, yes when we are all dead, until then we will still be learning, there is always something new.

I'm glad you have made it to 90

and i agree with you about people being very fearful and stubborn about leaving their comfort zones now adays: it's kinda sad, but it can also be expected when people have such a high amount of comfort and wealth in general.

I'll start posting some questions in "Getting Started".

You do, and then I will be forced to kill you.

Then you'll be a Linux old timer.

I want to become a Linux old-timer. (sarcasm) .;)
I want to become a Linux user like certain Linux users who bash Windows all of the time and are probably a closet Windows user.

I guess I should also post (sarcasm) so that some won't get their feelings hurt and they already know who they are.

That was me, I thought about changing years ago, didn't know anyone that used Linux , didn't know about this forum.

Just a thought, but negativity is fed by non-interest, and that is something that is extremely common these days. So is negativity.

Negativity comes from those who think they know everything...but when they try Linux they realise they don't.
