Hello. Was wondering if anyone could direct me to some instructions regarding installing ubuntu 24.04 Got the usb flash drive and all that set up, but for one I coludn't get internet access when I started the installation process, so I couldn't connect to that, plus when I choose the option to do a manual installation (Becasue I don't want to erase my OS X partition), I'm not sure what is what in the Gparted type of screen I'm seeing.

I've got one disk icon that says sda size 1.00 TB, one that says sd1 VFAT size 209.72 MB , one that says sda2 apfs size 1000 GB
I'm guessing this is the os X partition

The other one says sdb size 16.24 GB
sdb1 iso9660 (which i'm guessing is the usb drive)
sdb2 VFAT 5.19 MB
sdb3 size 307.2 kb
and sdb4 Ext4 size 9.89

And one more that says sdc 0b

Next to each of these is a check box for Format.

Is anyone familiar with this screen I'm describing? I can't include a screenshot, so my apologies. The ubuntu website assumes that people who choose this option are familiar with it, but I'm not that familiar with it, even though I've used Gparted before, so I recognize the look of what I'm seeing. Just not sure what is what and how to go about setting up/choosing the size of the Ubuntu Partition, etc.

Can anybody offer some assistance?

I would say you are correct. sdb is likely your installer USB.
Never heard of sd1, I assume this is sda1 ? If so, the vfat is probably your EFI boot partition.
sda2 is 1TB, this is likely your MocOS parition. ( you have to keep the efi partition in order to boot up).
sdc is 0bytes? That doesn't really make sense.

I would guess you need to leave everything on sda alone.
Do you think you have a second hard drive? This would be sdc.

I don't have a second hard drive. I wanted to ask if anyone is familiar with this problem and how I can set up ubuntu alongside my mac osX partition.

You would have to make your Mac OS partition smaller. This isn't really recommended.
It would be much safer if you had a second hard drive.

Which Mac model is this? Is this a newer m1,m2,m3 Mac?
