Hello Forum!

I'm using Ubuntu 24.04 and I installed Natron as a snap package using the App Center.
My problem is that when I try to launch the application nothing happens, the application doesn't open.
What could be the issue?

Thanks in advance ;)

Snaps can sometimes be funky, in my experience.

What happens if you reboot and then try to open the application again?

If that doesn't help, you can try opening the application via the terminal - which is probably just natron (I don't know because I've never used the application in question).

Thanks for your quick reply!

Restart didn't help. I used natron command in terminal and this is the output:
Natron Version 2.5
(C) 2018-2022 The Natron developers
(C) 2013-2018 INRIA and Alexandre Gauthier-Foichat
>>Use the --help or -h option to print usage.<<<
/usr/share/libdrm/amdgpu.ids: No such file or directory

Snaps can sometimes be funky, in my experience.
It may turn out to be a slightly more complicated process, but if you are having no luck there with the snap package, you could always try installing the flatpak.

This installs flathub....which in turn will give access to the many and various flatpaks

If this is a stretch, there are alternatives to natron....Nuke by The Foundry, or Blackmagic Fusion

What does the -h (help) say?

Is this actually a GUI application?

Thanks for your replies!

I removed the snap package and went to the official Natron website https://natrongithub.github.io/ from which I downloaded the Linux installer and used it to install the app. Now I can launch and use Natron properly.

I still have to understand why my PC freezes when I open certain video files and play them in Natron. The CPU usage goes to 80-100% and after a while the PC becomes unresponsive. The video files are not even so challenging, I mean here's the specs of one of them:
File extension: mkv
File size: 1.2 GB
Duration: 1h 36min <-- but I set the range to only 20 frames
Resolution: 720 × 406
Video Codec: H.264 (High Profile)
Video Bit Rate: 1238 kbps
Frame Rate: 23.98 fps
Audio Codec: AC3 (ATSC A/52)
Audio Bit Rate: 192 kbps
Sample Rate 48.00 kHz

And I don't think my hardware is an issue either:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics
SSD: Crucial P3 2TB PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 2280

I think it must be something in the settings of the app, not sure. In any case, the problem of launching the app is solved, I will mark this thread accordingly. A big thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you! ;)
