Google does this thing where it de-indexes/applies penalties if you have duplicate content. I have a ton of content already on the .gq domain name. I want to move it to the .us domain. I can't just copy it, 'cause that defeats the whole goal of getting indexed properly in Google (and other search engines).
So, to properly move the site, I need to redirect, do canonical URLs, and ideally magically delete the old content as soon as Google notices the new URL. As near as I can tell, you can do this in pieces or you can do it in stages - a page at a time. Either way, it's a ton of time and effort. I can do cross-domain canonical URLs but I can't quite figure out which direction those are supposed to go.
It's gonna be a while before that content gets moved. I'll just keep generating new content and let the old site sit there collecting hits. If nothing else, I can be pleased that the info is online and in one location.
