With the forthcoming end of support for Windows 10 I have been trying to make my Dell Latitude 7480 into a dual boot machine by putting MINT onto it. It is not going well. The problem is that my Dell Latitude 7480. While setting it up from the USB image I created, after Linux Mint started loading and I was into the "Install Linux Mint" sequence, after selecting the language and keyboard I got the message "Turn off RST" with the following explanation "This computer uses Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology). You need to turn off RST before installing Linux Mint. For instructions open this page help.ubuntu.com/rst

I tried following these instructions to change the storage controller protocol from RST to Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI). However this stops my Windows 10 installation from booting. So do not appear to be able to create a dual boot machine.

Any suggestions? I don't want to risk bricking my Dell Latitude 7480

Dell insperons are about as easy as they come
1]turn off windows quick start in the Bios/EUFI [usually under power management]
2]Turn off windows Secure boot Usualy found in the bios in it own section
3 Disable raid in bios
4]hard shut down the machine unplug from mains press and hold power button for 30 seconds
5] insert USB in primary drive [that's the one in the back near the power socket]
switch on jiggling F12 until short boot menu comes up,
6]select the usb drive and open, it should now load to ram for test mode.
run the test mode to make sure everything is working if ok press install, when you get to partitioning select install alongside, when asked if you want to install grub, say yes. once it has installed, DO NOT re-enable any of the above.

Welcome to the linux.org forum.
Mint should be a good choice for that machine. Only thiing that may take some work to get going is the wifi if it came with a broadcom card. But the drivers are there you need a lan connection to install them though. Good Luck and enjoy!
your machine specs are about the same as what I'm using and mint runs fine on this machine.

It about the same as mine except I have double the ram and a quad core 8 thread CPU, the wi-fi for this model is Intel and the kernel drivers will self install,
I run Mint LMDE6 on mine
