I have used LMDE and it's OK.

I really don't care for Cinnamon DE and I'm unwilling to jump through the hoops needed to switch to a different DE.

Perhaps LMDE will do as Ubuntu does and create a minimal iso so that a user can install only what a user wants and needs and nothing else.

I briefly used LMDE4, was happy with it, but changed later to the "mother Debian" aka Buster. All hardware worked OK though, but wanted KDE as my DE, which is not supported by mint.
Now running Bullseye/SID and could not be happier...

I have LMDE4/XFCE running on one of my box's I am testing out with a view to replacing M20 cinnamon.
On a lower spec machine it is running faster than my M20 box, no problem with stability or usability

Bwiz I was not aware that LMDE4 shipped with other than Cinnamon. Can you tell us where you got it from?

The meta-package for xfce4 is in/was in the repositories when i did my installation, so i just installed it,
Cinamon is a lovely desktop, but now its getting no better than M$ in the way it has become slower and bloated
