New to using Linux and have read some threads about Linux not see SSD USB drives. Mint 22 doesn't show the device in disk manger.

When I run the Kernel, then plug in the SSD I get this output:

I don't know what this is telling me nor where to go!

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Joel

If you open your application menu and type 'Disks', does that application see the drive?

Just checked, yes it does!
Joel

Did you notice that you can mount it?

As you're using Mint, you can probably open the file manager, click on Edit, and change the preferences. Under the 'behavior' section you can tell it to automatically mount removable media.

This will be relatively harmless. It's not like Windows where you need to worry about something automatically running when you insert the disk. There's no 'autorun.ini' functionality.

Please post the output of
sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc
Some errors I am seeing - it looks like every partition on that drive (4 of them) are corrupted

I’ll run that string shortly, away from the computer for the moment. Thanks!

Again, thanks so much for you attention. It is a learning experience for me since I have only be using Linux for about a week.

OK This is the output of sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc:

A) linux_joel@linux-Inspiron-5570:~$ sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc
[sudo] password for linux_joel:
sudo: smartctl: command not found
linux_joel@linux-Inspiron-5570:~$ sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdc
sudo: smartctl: command not found
linux_joel@linux-Inspiron-5570:~$

B) In File Manager, Edit Preferences, Behavior, the box was already checked to automatically mount removable drives.

C) In Disk Manager, here is a screen shot of the SSD:

D) I tried to create a partition of the unallocated portion but it came back with an error it could not recognized the format.

E) I'm guessing I may need to reformat the drive. No data is on it so nothing will be lost but I don't take formatting lightly.

Looks like you nee to install - smartmontools which you can get through the Synaptic Package Manager
or by running -
sudo apt install smartmontools
There is a GUI for that as well if you want it - called gsmartcontrol
here is what GUI looks like

Thanks again for the support.

Here's what I get when I read the output of the SSD from gsmartcontol:

=== START OF INFORMATION SECTION ===

> Terminate command early due to bad response to IEC mode page
A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T permissive' options.

Hummm...

If it fails...toss it.
