Minimal OS and download temp programs (no bloat)

I got this idea from dos2unix in the thread --

and am going to set up a usb with a Porteus OS totaling around half a Gib. Runs in ram.

Rclone will get my stuff from GDrive and I will use it and then delete it. No bloat. Just make sure there is enough ram.

I think using live OS only to deal with bloat and always start with fresh system is too much.
It's better to maintain your bare metal system well and have regular experience with Linux.

There is no bloat on Linux except left over folders which even if you don't deal with them are not performance issue nor do they consume any considerable space.
You can once a month or every 3 traverse your directory tree to delete them and that's it.

What "bloat" are you talking about. ?
Are you talking about the useful software that comes installed by default. ?
Linux doesn't create heaps of system files and bloatware or slow down over time because Linux isn't windoze.

The only things that take up space on a Drive apart from the Distro are...
1. Timeshift snapshots.
2. VMs.
3. The user.
All have solutions.

I like having a Plan-B, or many actually, but it's got to be compatible with tools like YUMi-exFAT these days, which is a Ventoy-based utility saving a significant amount of time while there's "puppies" already compatible for live use. Admittedly i lost track of a lot of things recently, Porteus/Slax among them, but i recall it once had accepted the addition of PlOP for vintage USB booting, so why not! Good luck.

Haven't used it myself, but it's a means of booting an operating system from any media that very old hardware never came with the ability to boot from. In other words, you have, say, a very old lappie whose BIOS was only written to use HDD or floppy disk; Plop lets you "add" the ability to boot from either an external optical drive OR a USB flash drive. Things like that.

No intended typo, it was intentional, but it's been so long i just forgot where the automatism came from - except i see a lot of « PLoP » around when i search, so maybe i got it reversed after all...
