Nice one @mrcrossroads :)

FYI to The Viewers as well - at the bottom of the article is a reference and link to a Linux Beginner's course which is a cooperative venture between The Linux Foundation and a group you may know as edX. It is self-paced and free. I did it 3 years ago next month, and it was really good.

The course then, featured an introduction at the start from the man himself, Linus Torvalds.

I might take it again, soon.

Cheers

I've been wanting to take both some edX and Udacity Linux courses but haven't had the brain energy to invest in it. I'd only be available evenings right now, when the brain is on cruise control.

Migrating to Linux: Graphical Environments

This is the third article in our series on migrating to Linux. If you missed earlier articles, they provided an introduction to Linux for new users and an overview of Linux files and filesystems. In this article, we'll discuss graphical environments.

Hi @Yara , hi @mrcrossroads

Just note my comments in that thread from #5 onwards, so you know what to expect.

And kudos to Member @Marc for starting that thread.

Hello Wizard, thanks for this info! As you know from my Newbie thread, I'm up to my eyeballs in alligators due to my lack of understanding of Linux. I don't mean to sound condescending, but is this course still relevant considering that Linux keeps evolving?

Hi @Gomad - that is a fair question, and my input was less than complete. I won't look to derail @mrcrossroads 's thread here, but suffice it to say the course providers, to my knowledge, run a new course every year or so, usually around December/January, and so the one available now should be current.

But I cannot say that with 100% certainty, as I have not yet enrolled (see my signature on New Year's Resolutions )

Cheers
