Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu 24.04 and installed MediaInfo as a snap package using the App Center. I have my drives mounted in /media and when I try to open that folder using MediaInfo I get the following message:
Error opening directory '/media': Permission denied

I checked the permissions of the App in Settings/Apps and they are all given (please check the attached image). I suppose I have to change some permissions using the Terminal but I honestly don't know how to do it. If anyone can help me, please do.

Thank you! :)

G'day again, @lymphor

Just an observation on my part......you seem to be having a challenging time with Ubuntu 24.04

your approach is fine......the problem is definitely not you.

Please open an XTerm or other similar program and use:

cd /media
ls -al

What user account are you using to access these directories?

Signed,

Matthew Campbell

As a matter of interest, I installed mediainfo as a flatpak in Linux Mint 21.3 and it immediately opened /media/brian/TV, Timeshift

without a murmur.

I think the problem here is Ubuntu 24.04

You should not have to resort to all these extra measures.

I also installed it as an ordinary app from Linux Mint's Software Manager....same result...worked perfectly ootb

Hello everybody and thanks for tuning in.
I removed the snap app and used the following command in Terminal:
sudo apt-get install mediainfo-gui
Now the app works fine, no problems anymore, thank you!

@Condobloke : thank you for your words! You're right, Ubuntu 24.04 is revealing to be a very unpleasant experience. But I already lost too much time with it so I'll stick with it and try to fix as much as possible. If it wasn't for the good people of this forum I would have been lost a long time ago.
