Hello Linux.org.,

For those who may be interested I just installed Lubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa).

I did run into a bit of a snag with getting the Wifi adapter to work which is typical with most laptops in my experience.

Two separate Wifi adapters onboard and couldn't get either one of them to work which is why I hate laptops and Wifi adapters.

OH well after enough frustration I dug through my box of spare parts and found a Realtek RTL8188EUS Wireless Network Adapter.

I plugged the usb Wifi adapter in and restarted the laptop and had an internet connection and from there the install went without a hitch.

I've always liked Lubuntu with LXDE desktop however Lubuntu 20.04 is LXQT desktop and it's a lot different so a new learning curve at the moment.

Everything seems to work well so I'll give it a workout and see how I like it.

Yeah I know @poorguy using a laptop wonders never cease. o_O

The 12 year old laptop Lubuntu 20.04 is installed on.

Is the performance quick/fast compared to other laptops/desktops you have running ?

For the age of the laptop it's pretty decent and a painless experience although anything other than a lightweight desktop environment like Xfce or LXLE or LXQT would probably load the integrated graphics adapter and processor.

Compared to the Wife's Windows 10 laptop no it's not as good although 2 cores and only 4.0 GB memory compared to her core i7 and 16 GB memory.

Laptops from my experience using Linux or Windows just can't keep up with the hardware found in a desktop not to mention the wireless adapters usually found in laptops suck imo.

For a free laptop which came with Windows XP I have to say it is a good experience and my only real complaint is the amount of heat this old laptop produces.

To reduce the heat and give the laptop better air flow I set it on top of pill bottle lids and what a difference that little change made.

There's a kid who lives in the neighborhood and likes Linux and doesn't have a computer other than his parents Windows 10 computer.

I gave him this Laptop since there ain't many kids today who are interested in Linux.

Converting today's youth into Linux users one by one. ;)
