How does one load Elementary Linux (or any other linux fro that matter. For free. I made the recommended $10.00 donation to Elementary Linux and poof. No more $10.00. No Elementary Linux, either.

Hi Charles, and welcome! I'm sorry that you were confused by the elementary OS website. Almost all Linux distros are free, including elementary, but they "encourage" you to make a donation as you discovered. For future reference with them, you could enter 0.00 in the custom amount box and the button to "purchase" would change to a "download" button to let you get their OS. Most other Linux distros don't use this type of gimmick, but most will welcome donations if you like their work.

@Rob's link gives good instructions for the elementary OS and explains how you need to transfer the large .iso file you downloaded to a USB flash drive and make it bootable. All Linux distros use a similar process, so it's good to become familiar with how this works. Besides elementary OS, it is good to try a few other distros too... there are many differences and you will find some you like better than others. Trying more than one can also help to see which ones work best on your computer hardware.

But take your time and check out elementary first since you've paid them for it. You may love it right away... it is a very popular distro. If you need further help there are many here that will assist if we can.

Cheers
