G'day @gary171281 and welcome to linux.org :)

Are you in Windows (if so which one), or in LInux (if so, which one)?

Ta (pron. "tar" Aussie for thanks) for that, Gary :)

If Kali is your first Linux you have likely bitten off more than you can chew, but you are old enough I do not need to read you the riot act ;)

Kali is based directly on Debian, and does not support the use of PPAs. PPAs are an invention of Ubuntu and can also be used in Linux Mint.

Hence the failure to install Geza Kovacs' Unetbootin using that method.

If you want to put on Unetbootin in Kali -

https://unetbootin.github.io/

... click the download for Linux, and below the 32-bit 64-bit options, read the install instructions for Binary. I would be inclined to download it to /opt.

For Etcher -

https://github.com/balena-io/etcher

... then go down to Installers and follow the instructions headed

Debian and Ubuntu based Package Repository (GNU/Linux x86/x64)

The above operations will not provide you with an easy means to launch the apps.

For that

Code:
apt-get -y install alacarte

This will generate a function called Main Menu, which you can access through the Dash. You can then assign names and launchers for the apps and place them on your Favourites panel.
